For more information, see [Usage-based billing for individuals](/en/copilot/concepts/billing/usage-based-billing-for-individuals).\n\n\n\n> \\[!IMPORTANT]\n> **Starting April 20, 2026**, new sign-ups for Copilot Pro, Copilot Pro+, and student plans are temporarily paused. However, existing Copilot plans can still be upgraded, downgraded, or canceled.\n\nYou can view your current plan details in your GitHub account settings. From there, you can change or cancel your plan.\n\nIf you have access to GitHub Copilot through an organization, you will not be able to modify your plan.\n\n## Viewing your Copilot plan\n\n1. In the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Settings**.\n2. In the \"Access\" section of the sidebar, click ** Billing & licensing** and then **Licensing** (new platform). Alternatively, click ** Billing and licensing**, then click **Plans and usage** (original platform).\n\nUnder \"Licensing\" and \"Current plan\", you can see which license and plan you're currently using.\n\n## Changing your Copilot plan\n\nYou can upgrade or downgrade your Copilot plan at any time from your account settings.\n\n### Upgrading your Copilot plan\n\n1. In the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Settings**.\n\n2. In the \"Access\" section of the sidebar, click ** Billing & licensing** and then **Licensing** (new platform). Alternatively, click ** Billing and licensing**, then click **Plans and usage** (original platform).\n\n3. In the \"GitHub Copilot\" section, click the option to upgrade on the right.\n\n * If you're on Copilot Free, click **Upgrade Copilot** to choose a paid plan.\n * If you're on Copilot Pro, click **Upgrade to Copilot Pro+**.\n\n4. Follow the prompts to confirm your selection and billing details.\n\n### Downgrading your Copilot Pro+ plan\n\n1. In the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Settings**.\n\n2. In the \"Access\" section of the sidebar, click ** Billing & licensing** and then **Licensing** (new platform). Alternatively, click ** Billing and licensing**, then click **Plans and usage** (original platform).\n\n3. In the \"GitHub Copilot\" section, select the **Manage subscription** dropdown on the right and then click **Downgrade to Copilot Pro**.\n\n4. In the downgrade modal, you'll see options to:\n\n * **Keep Copilot Pro+**, which cancels the downgrade process.\n * **Downgrade to Copilot Pro**, which switches you to Copilot Pro at the start of your next billing cycle.\n\n Select **Downgrade to Copilot Pro** to confirm.\n\n## Canceling your Copilot plan\n\nYou can cancel your Copilot plan at any time. You’ll retain access to your current features until your billing cycle ends. You will automatically be downgraded to Copilot Free at the end of your billing cycle.\n\nIf you have been granted a free access to Copilot as a verified student, teacher, or maintainer of a popular open source project, you won’t be able to cancel your plan. If you have access to Copilot through an organization, you will not be able to cancel your plan. In these cases, you can disable Copilot in your environment. See [Configuring GitHub Copilot in your environment](/en/copilot/configuring-github-copilot/configuring-github-copilot-in-your-environment).\n\nIf you have an active Copilot Pro or Copilot Pro+ plan, and are then assigned a seat as part of a Copilot Business or Copilot Enterprise plan, your personal Copilot plan will be automatically canceled.\n\n1. In the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub, click your profile picture, then click ** Settings**.\n\n2. In the \"Access\" section of the sidebar, click ** Billing & licensing** and then **Licensing** (new platform). Alternatively, click ** Billing and licensing**, then click **Plans and usage** (original platform).\n\n3. In the \"GitHub Copilot\" section, select the **Manage subscription** dropdown on the right and then click **Cancel subscription**.\n\n4.
