This way the sidenote text will not be indented by the number.

I think the correct term for this typographical style is "hanging punctuation" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanging_punctuation).

Hmm, the numbers appear a little higher in Firefox. Not sure why.

I should also mention: I'm not sure this is what Tufte would want. This pull request is more of a proposal than a normative recommendation or bug-fix.

Hmm. This is quite an interesting idea. At first flush I was in favor, but A) the FF bug should be resolved and B) I just checked the Visual Display of Quantitative Info (the only book Tufte has that Amazon allows me to virtually 'look inside') and Tufte does indent sidenotes by number.

I'd be interested in some comments both pro and con.
