WILMINGTON — Governor Matt Meyer today announced the nomination of Sonia Augusthy, a distinguished trial attorney and longtime public servant, to serve as a judge on the Delaware Superior Court. Augusthy brings more than 15 years of courtroom experience, a record of mentorship in both prosecution and defense and a career-long commitment to justice and equity.

“Sonia Augusthy is a highly respected attorney with deep trial experience and a demonstrated dedication to the fair and impartial administration of justice,” said Governor Matt Meyer. “Her career reflects a commitment not only to the letter of the law, but to the communities impacted by it. She will serve the people of Delaware with integrity, thoughtfulness, and excellence.”

Augusthy currently serves as an Assistant Public Defender in the Delaware Office of Defense Services, representing disadvantaged clients in Superior Court since 2020. Her extensive courtroom experience includes complex motion practice, trial litigation, and sentencing advocacy. She previously served more than a decade in various roles at the Delaware Department of Justice, including Director of the Office of Civil Rights and Public Trust, where she led independent reviews of police use-of-force incidents, oversaw public corruption prosecutions, and drafted legislation to promote transparency and accountability in government.

Augusthy is also the first person of South Asian descent nominated to serve as a judge on the Delaware Superior Court.

If confirmed by the Delaware State Senate, Sonia Augusthy will bring a rare combination of deep trial expertise, balanced legal judgment, and community-centered service to the Superior Court.
