- Due to rapid changes in the workplace, as well as the difficulty in finding and retaining employees, many employers have hired the wrong person and put the proverbial round peg into a square hole because it turns out the employee doesn't have the necessary skills for that position. However, rather than losing them, employers will look to redeploy that person's transferable skills elsewhere in the organization. For example, one of my clients had a new HR assistant who was failing at her payroll administration duties. But when she was asked to chip in with some recruiting, turns out she did an amazing job. Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, they transferred her to that position on a full-time basis, and she continues to excel. It turns out she had excellent communication and persuasion soft skills, and it was a win-win for everyone. If the employee has the right soft skills, an employer may be willing to train them…
