- So far, we've covered network layers through the use of TCP/IP model and network segmentation. The next step in preventing security incidents is to implement controls. In network security, controls are mechanisms we implement to manage and protect and control network flow. Without this control, security is not guaranteed. Let's go over the main security controls for networks, starting with the most basic, firewalls. Firewalls are controls that keep track of incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. There are many types. I'm going to run through this quickly, so feel free to pause the video to review what each does. First is the application-layer firewalls. These are simple firewalls that target specific applications or data that are being sent.
