- So how would you go about assessing the statistics presented by your well-intentioned, but clearly advocating Portland manager? A good starting point is a closer look at the underlying data. You can find this in exercise file 07_03. The manager was very specific about dates. Although the store opened in January, she mentioned 16 months of growth. This seems like a red flag that maybe the data that was selected was more cherry-picked, and if you look at the spreadsheet, you notice you have financial information dating back to the opening of the store. Looking at the overall trend in sales might be helpful to put this growth in perspective. There seems to be nothing magical about December, 2021 in the levels chart.
