- [Instructor] Nessus is a host vulnerability scanner where Nmap identifies live hosts and the services running on those hosts. Nessus can identify technical vulnerabilities on those hosts, vulnerabilities that an attacker might be able to exploit. You can download Nessus from tenable.com. Now, Tenable offers multiple vulnerability scanning solutions, including cloud-based solutions and scanners that run on your local machine. For this course, we're going to use Nessus Essentials. This version of the tool allows security testers to scan up to 16 IP addresses on our home networks, and that should be more than enough for your personal lab. To use Nessus Essentials though, you will need to register with the Tenable website, entirely up to you if you want to go down that path. Once you provide your name and email address, they'll take you to the download page while simultaneously sending an activation code to your email.
