Identify sensitive information requirements for an organization’s data

Let's talk about what sensitive information is before we go any further, because it's really important we understand what this is, because this is what we're going to be protecting throughout most of this course. So sensitive information is broadly defined as any data that requires safeguards against unauthorized access or disclosure. This can include obvious things like personal identifiers. So things like credit card numbers or bank details, health and medical information, and it can be things like your organization's intellectual properties or trade secrets. So, you know, there's secret spices in a fried chicken, for example. Essentially it's any sort of data or information, if it gets leaked and is found by or read by folks who shouldn't have it and that it could cause harm, whether that's legal, financial, reputational, or personal, then it's considered sensitive and we need to classify and protect it appropriately.
