IPv6 address types

(soft music) - [Instructor] Now that you know the format of an IPv6 address, this module is all about categorizing those IPv6 addresses. For example, one category, the one that I think of most often is an IPv6 Global Unicast Address, that is global unique. It can be used to route traffic around the world. We could also have an IPv6 multicast address and just like IPv4 multicast, this is not going to be the source IP address of any device. This is a destination, it's a group, and devices wanting to receive traffic join that multicast group. We'll also talk about an IPv6 link local address, an address that's only valid on a specific network segment. IPv6 unique local that can be used to route traffic within our organization, but not on the public internet. If we want to test our own IPv6 stack, make sure it's up and running, we have a loopback option. Just like with IPv4, we had 127.0.0.1.
