- [Narrator] There are so many different pieces and parts that make up networking. And when one IT professional is communicating with another and they mention a certain protocol or a certain device, it can be difficult to imagine where that protocol or device fits into the overall scheme of the network. That's where network models come in. And in this module, we're going to consider a couple of network models beginning with the open systems interconnection or the OSI model. This is a seven layer model that's very widely used among network professionals. We'll also consider the TCP/IP model, and there are variations of this model. Some are four layers, some are five layer. We'll check all of those out. And we're going to begin by taking a look at that OSI model those seven layers and we'll discuss what happens at each layer. We'll take a look at how the OSI model can be translated into the TCP/IP model. And then we're going to focus on some specific layers of the OSI model. First up is…
