- [Narrator] What makes Mainstays unique from Ableton and other live performance programs is the ability to customize the way you interface with the program. This has done through the layout mode, which allows you to design the appearance and function of your workspace. This is the workspace right here, the black area. And if I move over to layout mode, you'll see this is what allows me to customize the way it looks. A good way to understand the vast possibilities of layout mode is to examine each of the templates to see how they're set up. Right now, I've got a basic keyboard template set up and in front of us, we have something called smart controls. You see how they show up in the layout mode. They just say smart controls, but here they are. It's beautifully laid out, customized controls in the workspace that Apple has made for you.
